§ 1Scope of Coverage

Definition

This journal refers to all articles published under /journal/ on this site, together with the content indexed by the section pages.

Coverage is limited to knowledge that can be discussed publicly and whose conclusions can be checked. It comprises four kinds of content: definitions of terms, taxonomies of materials and structures, reproducible methods, and long-form reviews based on public sources.

This journal does not pursue publication frequency. Articles appear when the evidence is sufficient, and are revised when the evidence changes. A revision updates the date shown on the page.

§ 2Article Formats

Articles fall into four formats. The format determines how an article is organised and how strong a conclusion it is permitted to draw, which allows the reader to judge how the article should be relied upon.

§ 3Editorial Principles

  1. Only verifiable conclusions are stated. Any claim concerning mechanism, numerical value or causation must be traceable to public textile or physiological literature. Claims that cannot be traced are rewritten as statements of experience.
  2. Terms follow national standards and ISO textile terminology. A trade name does not constitute a basis for classification. Where a trade name conflicts with a fibre name, this journal follows the fibre name and explains the relation between the two.
  3. Fact and experience are kept distinct. Statements of fact are given directly. Advice drawn from experience is labelled explicitly as practice, is not set alongside fact, and is not presented as a conclusion.
  4. Uncertainty is stated as uncertainty. Where evidence is insufficient, the page states that the point is unresolved and explains why, rather than supplying a convenient answer. Readers are entitled to know where the boundary of knowledge lies.
  5. No commercial position is introduced. This site does not sell products and does not accept any arrangement conditioned on ranking, review or recommendation. There are no exceptions to this principle.

§ 4What Is Not Published

The following fall outside the scope of this journal

  • Product recommendations, purchase links and pricing information
  • Rankings of brands by merit
  • Promotional articles, unboxing content and discount notices intended to convert readers
  • Medical diagnosis and treatment advice. Content touching on health is limited to general explanation and refers the reader to a clinician where necessary.

§ 5Citation and Republication

Text published in this journal is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC 4.0). Republication must retain attribution and link to the original page, may not be used commercially, and may not be modified and then published in the name of this journal.

When citing this journal, please give the page title, the section to which it belongs, and the date of access. Corrections of factual error are welcome by email; a verified correction is noted in the original article.
